About Us

Glass Ceiling Arts Collective is an Arts charity; it’s a community who believe that young people with disabilities should not be defined by their disability but, rather, they should be afforded the opportunity to enjoy the performing arts alongside their non disabled peers. The benefits for the young person with a disability are untold. Similarly, the benefits for young people without disabilities, and indeed the whole of society, are untold too.

Our Values

Our kaupapa is informed by the government’s Enabling Good Lives initiative, which suggests that it is to the benefit of all New Zealanders that we build inclusive communities, and that disabled people are supported to live an everyday life in everyday places; and are regarded as citizens with opportunities for learning, employment, having a home and family, and social participation - like others at similar stages of life.

Meet Us

Meet a few of our performers and learn what young people with disabilities want from the Arts.

Lily Mae is a young lady, with Downs Syndrome, who loves performing. She played the role of Princess Fiona in our recent Shrek The Musical Jr. Benjamin, Max and James were all guards. Shrek was the first opportunity for any of the four, to play a proper role in a major public show.

Meet a few of our parents.

A few mums were caught having a wee natter about the benefits that came from being in Shrek, in the video below. What they have to say is quite compelling, so please do watch it. Dad, Mark, also tells us about why Glass Ceiling Arts Collective is important to his family.
